This work began as a response to Carolus-Duran’s L’homme endormi, not as a reconstruction of the older painting but as a contemporary conversation with it.
About the work
The painting approaches art history as a living structure: something that can be revisited, questioned and used as a foundation for a new gesture, colour and presence.
The past functions as scaffolding rather than weight: a place from which a new image can speak.
The result sits between inheritance and reinvention, keeping the historical reference visible without allowing it to determine the final work.
